First day at BEET school

School started at 8:30 am which is pretty late compared to Switzerland where it starts about at 7:45. The first thing we had to do was a test to see which level we have. There was a listening part, a grammar part, a vocabulary part, a writing part and a speaking part. I was afraid that I’m going to do bad on the test, but it wasn’t that difficult. We also had to give our ID cards or passes to them and we saw that there was a really big pile of Swiss ID cards. I think it is kind of cool to meet people from your own country but it also kind of isn’t because most of them where talking Swiss German which isn’t good, I think, because as I mentioned in my last blog post Laura and I are trying to only speak English but if there are people always talking Swiss German it’s really difficult and you obviously learn less if you don’t talk English all the time.

After the test we had a 50 minutes break and we went to Charminster road because there are many shops and restaurants. We decided to go to a supermarket because I had to buy water and cosmetic products. Back at school we were divided into groups and went to different classes. I’m in the same class as Livia but unfortunately not in the same as Laura. In the lesson we did some speaking and looked at the different forms of comparison. At lunch we went to Subway, but we had to eat the sandwich on our way back to school because we only had 40 minutes.

In the afternoon we made a sightseeing tour with a bus. The guide was really funny. He made many jokes so the tour was less boring than I thought it would be. It was actually pretty interesting. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that good. You could see the coast but it was really misty.

One hour later we were back at school. We got information about the rules of behaviour and we got our timetables. Because Laura and I have decided that we want to do an intensive course, we have lessons on two afternoons from 13:00 to 14:30. Some said that we are stupid to pick this course, but I think it’s okay because it’s only two afternoons which is still way less than at school in Switzerland. When we got our timetables, we also got to know which level we have. I have the level C1 M. I didn’t know that there are C1 L, C1 M and C1 +. First, I was a little bit confused, but I think the L stans for low, the M stands for medium and the + stands for the next higher level.

When school was over, we went to the Creams Shop to eat an ice cream. It took use ages to decide what we want to eat because there was such a big selection. I took an ice cream called “Hot n’ cold chocolate fudge volcano” and it was absolutely delicious. Tonight, the school planned a “club night” where we just play games and chat a little bit. That was my first day at BEET school and I have a good impression because all the people working there are really nice and kind and the lesson, we had today was also pretty interesting.

The left one is mine and the right one is Lauras.
